Thanksgiving took an unexpected turn for Arnold Schwarzenegger when the LAPD responded to a bomb threat at his Los Angeles home. According to a report from TMZ, officers were called to investigate claims that an explosive device had been placed in the actor’s mailbox.
After a thorough search of the area, no bomb was found. Schwarzenegger’s security team assured authorities that such an act would be nearly impossible due to the property’s round-the-clock security and video surveillance.
Interestingly, Arnold wasn’t home during the scare. TMZ reports that he was at the gym, staying true to his fitness routine before sitting down for a holiday meal.
Law enforcement believes this was a case of “swatting,” a dangerous hoax designed to elicit an emergency response. While no arrests have been made, Schwarzenegger’s team expressed gratitude for the LAPD’s swift action, especially on a holiday.
This incident is part of a worrying trend, as other prominent figures, including Congressman Matt Gaetz and members of President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet, have also been targeted by bomb threats recently. Thankfully, those cases turned out to be false alarms as well.
